The Human Capacity Development Program (HCDP) is a scholarship program that began in 2010 with funding from the Kurdistan Regional Government. The program consists of 5 phases; for each phase the KRG will allocate US$100 million. In accordance with the needs of the Kurdistan Region, the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHE) will award at least 1,000 scholarships per year until 2014 for students to pursue Masters and Doctoral degrees at leading international universities in North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Middle East.
The HCDP aims to:
Train a highly skilled young generation in various fields, especially science and engineering, which will advance the Kurdistan Region and Iraq more broadly;
Build and develop human resources capable of leading the restructuring of Kurdistan’s higher education system;
Promote excellence in advanced research and improve knowledge transfer at Kurdish universities by establishing linkages with leading international universities.
The KRG Representation in the US is available to provide general guidance about studying and living in the US and address any issues related to the HCDP Scholarship. HCDP students interested or already studying in the US, as well as US universities interested in receiving HCDP students should contact the KRG-US for more information:
