Representative Abdul Rahman’s Memorial Day 2016 message
Washington, DC (us.gov.krd) – On the occasion of Memorial Day, I wish to extend the gratitude and condolences of the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the families, friends, and colleagues of US military personnel who have lost their lives fighting tyranny and injustice, not only in Iraq, but throughout the world. Though there are no words that can comfort those they left behind, may their loved ones find some solace in knowing that the results of their heroism are known to every man, woman, and child of Kurdistan.
Supported by the bravery and selflessness of American men and women in uniform over the years – who provided humanitarian aid and safety in Operation Provide Comfort in 1991, liberated us from a dictator in 2003, and are today providing training and air support against the terrorists of ISIS – the Kurdistan Region has become a beacon of stability and a safe haven for those fleeing violence.
On behalf of the people of Kurdistan, I thank all American service members, who serve and sacrifice so that others may live free. Our Peshmerga are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with you against terrorism and injustice.
Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman
