KRG officials meet Vice President Biden at White House

Washington, DC, USA ( – On Thursday a delegation led by Kurdistan Region Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani met with Vice President Joseph Biden and the National Security Council at the White House.

The Kurdistan Regional Government delegation included President Masoud Barzani’s Chief of Staff Dr Fuad Hussein and KRG Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman. The NSC team was led by Deputy National Security Advisor Avril Haines, and included National Security Advisor to the Vice President Colin Kahl; Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL Brett McGurk; Special Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf Region Robert Malley; Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Iran, Iraq, Syria, and the Gulf States Jeffrey Prescott.

They met to discuss a wide range of issues including the progress in the battle to liberate Mosul, the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil, and the importance of the relationship between the United States and the Kurdistan Region. The delegation thanked the administration for providing critical air support, training and equipment for Peshmerga soldiers, and financial assistance to the KRG.
